Google Analytics: 

The beauty of this tool lies in the fact that it is totally FREE of charge and yet it is packed with all the data you need to analyze your website. To get started, first you will have to log in with your Google Account, then you will need to copy and paste a javascript snippet into the header section of each page of the your website et voilà, you’re ready to go (don’t worry about this for now, your IT department will help you with that). Now you will be able to get all KPIs you need to make intelligent marketing decisions with Google Analytics. Available for websites, apps, and enterprise businesses.

Some of the most important KPIs are:

  • Acquisition (Source / Medium): This metric will let you know where you traffic is coming from.
  • Bounce Rate: Will show you whether your leads are staying on your website or not
  • Conversion: Is the most important metric where you will be able to see ROI on your efforts. Note that this feature needs to be setup in advance.

Google Search Console / Bing Webmaster:

Ok, these are really the essentials. Once you have your site up and running, you want to make sure that you have registered it on those 2 platforms as they are the backbone of the search engines. Here you will be able to submit your sitemap and let the search engine crawl all your website pages. Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster will keep you updated about the number of pages that are indexed. It will show you errors detected, broken links, backlinks to your website, average position of your pages as well as the search queries that triggered your website to be shown.

Google Page Speed Insights is one of my favourite and simplest SEO tools available for free. Not to mention is it developed by Google. The main purpose of this tool is to help you analyze the speed of your website (or page). It will also tell you how your user experience scores on both your desktop and mobile sites. All you have to do is simply enter your URL into the search box and let the tool do the job for you. 

At the end of the test, the It will analyze both the mobile and desktop version of your site and will provide a quality score out of 100.

Not only the tools will analyze your website, but it will also provide you with recommendations for resolving the issues that slow your website.This includes things like eliminating JavaScript in above-the-fold content, minifying HTML and JS, optimizing images and leveraging browser caching. 

Google Page Speed Insights will measure the site’s “User Experience” by taking into account things like font sizes, image quality, and more. It will also tell you whether you may be failing Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test and allows you to get results by clicking a specific link.

MailChimp

MailChimp is a web-based email marketing service. According to PR Newswire, 91% of adults opt to receive promotional emails from companies they do business with. 

MailChimp provides businesses with a variety of templates to craft with and reporting features to track email campaign performance. The great thing about MailChimp is that it has a FREE entry account suitable for beginners. You can create a simple, but beautiful email newsletter with just dragging and dropping on the user interface. A/B testing allows you to test your email copies, especially your call to action, prior to proceeding with a full-scale launch. At the end of a campaign, you can collect valuable information about the performance of your newsletter, and gain valuable insight into your audience.

Similar platforms exist such as Campaign Monitor but personally I don’t find it as easy to use as MailChimp.

SEMrush

A more advanced tool but by far the most comprehensive that you will find in the market. The tool will give an overview about the health of your website in terms of broken links, missing meta data, pages will low text ratio and so on and so forth. 

The company has added new features such as SEO content template to help you with your content marketing efforts. You can create your projects, and set your keywords and off you go with the tracking.

One specific feature that I like is associating every keyword with a landing page, so you will be able to see which page ranks for which keyword. By far this is my favorite view.

 

Agency Analytics 

Although it might not be that popular yet, this tool is by far my favorite. It is not free, yet it has some powerful features.

First You will be able to have your website audited to know about the errors and issues that need your quick attention. It will provide you with duplicate content problems as well as broken links within your site.

Keyword tracker is another powerful feature (provided by SEMrush, yet another powerful tool) that will allow you to see the ranking of your keywords.

It will integrate with Google Analytics and your social media for your to view the full insight.

And the most awesome feature it that it will create an automatic customizable report, that can be sent automatically to your clients as per the schedule you set. 

Use the right tools for yOU…

My article does not cover all the tools available out there, yet I chose to focus on mainly the free ones (except for Agency Analytics).
